Police Arrest 589 Suspects in Crackdown on Online Gambling and Scam Network

KPL A special task force from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), in cooperation with the Mobile Security Force, has dismantled a major online gambling and telecommunications fraud network, arresting 589 suspects during a raid in Vientiane Capital on July 18, 2026.

The operation targeted a rented building in Dong Phosy Village, Hadxayfong District, where authorities alleged criminal groups were operating online gambling platforms and conducting telecommunications and online fraud schemes.
Police arrested 589 suspects, including 309 women, from four nationalities. Those detained comprised 373 Thai nationals (198 women), 199 Lao nationals (105 women), 15 Vietnamese nationals (4 women), and 2 Cambodian women.
During the raid, authorities seized a large quantity of electronic equipment, including 1,517 desktop computers, 4,045 laptop computers, and 5,245 mobile phones. Investigators are examining the devices as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Ministry of Public Security said investigations are continuing to identify the masterminds behind the network and other accomplices for prosecution in accordance with the law.
Officials also thanked members of the public whose information contributed to the successful operation.
The ministry urged the public to remain vigilant when using social media, avoid falling victim to online scams, and refrain from participating in any form of gambling, particularly online gambling.
Anyone with information about individuals, groups, or locations suspected of involvement in illegal activities is encouraged to report it through the Economic Police Department's official Facebook page or by calling the 1533 hotline, which operates 24 hours a day.
