Laos officially launched a nationwide welcome campaign on Saturday ahead of the First National Media Conference, highlighting the Party's commitment to strengthening media leadership and advancing the sector in the digital era.

The campaign, held under the theme "Strengthening Party Leadership and Developing Media Toward a Strong Transition to a New Quality," opened in Vientiane and was attended by Khamphan Pheuyavong, Head of the Commission for Information and Education of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Thongli Sisoulith, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union, senior government officials and media representatives.

Addressing the ceremony, Khamphan said the campaign celebrates both the upcoming First National Media Conference and the 76th anniversary of Lao media, recognizing its role in communicating Party policies, reflecting public concerns and contributing to national development.
He said the conference represents an important step in strengthening Party leadership over the media while accelerating reforms to meet the demands of the digital age and artificial intelligence. "Developing media toward a new quality is not merely a slogan but a political task," he said, calling on media organizations to improve content, adopt new technologies and strengthen professional capacity to better serve the nation.
Thongli emphasized the importance of encouraging young people to become responsible communicators by using digital platforms constructively, in accordance with the law, while safeguarding national interests.
The campaign featured a public forum on media transformation in the AI era, exhibitions on journalism, technology and youth development, as well as displays highlighting the history of Lao media. Visitors also enjoyed cultural exhibitions, local food displays, classic film screenings using vintage projectors, interactive broadcasting experiences and performances by well-known Lao artists.
The First National Media Conference will be held from July 13-15 under the theme "Strengthening Party Leadership and Developing Media Toward a Strong Transition to a New Quality."
