(KPL) A mini marathon featuring 5 km and 10 km races was held on Aug 10, at That Luang Esplanade to commemorate the 34th anniversary of National Constitution Day and raise funds for victims of natural disasters, including Typhoon Wipha.

The event was attended by Vice President of the Lao National Assembly Chaleun Yiapaoher, along with leaders from the National Assembly, ministries, equivalent agencies, the diplomatic corps, and representatives of international organizations in the Lao PDR.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President of the National Assembly Chaleun Yiapaoher said the celebration sought to create a joyful atmosphere and showcase achievements in preparation for major upcoming milestones — the 50th anniversary of the Lao PDR’s founding, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the National Assembly (Dec 2, 1975–2025), and the 105th anniversary of the birth of President Kaysone Phomvihane, the revered leader of the Lao multi-ethnic people.

He noted that since the promulgation of the Constitution in 1991, it has undergone three amendments — in 2003, 2015, and 2025 — to align with the country’s socio-economic development, strengthen the state power system, deepen reforms, and build a self-reliant and independent economy.

To mark this year’s anniversary and promote awareness of the 2025 Constitution, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly issued Recommendation No. 16 on July 11, 2025. The Law Commission has prepared educational materials, including a commemorative speech and a Q&A guide, for dissemination among Party members, civil servants, armed forces personnel, police officers, students, and the general public nationwide.

Mr. Chaleun called on all citizens to study and apply the Constitution in practice, underscoring its significance for national development.

The mini marathon also aimed to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen friendship and solidarity, support Visit Laos Year, and raise funds and materials for communities affected by natural disasters across the country.
