(KPL) Mahosot Hospital in Laos and Fuwai Cardiovascular Hospital in China’s Yunnan Province have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at improving the quality of healthcare services, with a special focus on cardiovascular treatment.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony held in Vientiane on Monday, attended by Lao Minister of Health Bounfeng Phoummalaysith and senior officials from both nations.

Director General of Mahosot Hospital, Dr. Souxath Vongphachanh, highlighted that the partnership seeks to enhance patient care, disease prevention, and medical research—particularly in the areas of pediatric cardiac surgery and heart transplants for children with congenital heart conditions.

“This collaboration marks a significant step forward in strengthening Laos-China relations in the healthcare sector,” Dr. Souxath said. “It will also support the development of human resources, improve access to modern medical equipment, and ensure a steady supply of essential healthcare materials.”

He also expressed appreciation for the continued support from the Chinese government and Fuwai Cardiovascular Hospital, noting their vital role in advancing cardiovascular treatment capabilities in Laos.

The partnership is expected to raise the standard of medical services in Laos and foster further cooperation in public health research and training between the two countries.
