Namor Tai Village was filled with cheers and smiles on December 19 as students, teachers, and community members celebrated the handover of a newly constructed primary school. The landmark project was made possible through a US$200,000 contribution from Electric Laos Transmission Company Limited (EDL-T), marking a significant investment in local education.
The handover ceremony was held in Namo Tai Village, Namor District, Oudomxay Province, on December 19, 2025.
Designed to accommodate approximately 180 students, the new school represents a major step forward in expanding educational opportunities for children in Namor District. Construction began on August 5, 2025, and was completed ahead of schedule on December 12, 2025, significantly strengthening the area’s education infrastructure.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Oudomxay Provincial Party Committee, Mr. Bounkhong Lachiemphone; the Managing Director of EDL-T, Mr. Li Jingru; as well as representatives from relevant authorities and local community members. The event underscored not only the importance of the new school for the village, but also the spirit of cooperation between Laos and China.
In his remarks, Mr. Bounkhong highlighted that the completion of Namor Tai Primary School provides essential support for local education while contributing to national education development. He noted that the school is located adjacent to the Namo 3 Substation of the China–Laos 500 kV power interconnection project, which is currently under construction.
“Together, the power substation and the school form a ‘Power Silk Road’ that improves livelihoods, attracts investment, and serves as a ‘Gateway of Hope’ lighting the future for our children,” he said. He reaffirmed Oudomxay Province’s commitment to supporting investors, including Chinese enterprises, and called on local residents to protect the school and support its long-term development.
Mr. Li Jingru emphasized the long-standing friendship between China and Laos, describing EDL-T as a product of close bilateral cooperation and reaffirming the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.
“EDL-T has always sought to align corporate development with the improvement of local livelihoods,” he said. “We will continue to uphold the vision of ‘Lighting Ten Thousand Homes, Deep China–Laos Friendship,’ supporting local development through stable and reliable power services and building a new model of government–enterprise cooperation.”
The Director of Namor Tai Primary School, Mr. Keo Loungpankham, expressed sincere gratitude for the support, noting that the new facilities would greatly improve teaching conditions and expand opportunities for students.
“Together with all the teachers, I promise to carefully manage and make full use of this school, providing our children with knowledge and hope for a brighter future,” he said.
The ceremony was held in a warm and festive atmosphere. Guests viewed a video documenting the school’s development from blueprint to completion, jointly unveiled the school plaque, and witnessed EDL-T’s donation of educational supplies. In a symbolic gesture of hope and friendship, officials, students, and guests planted “Champasak Light” saplings on the school grounds, representing the lasting growth of education.
Built as a livelihood-supporting project under the China–Laos 500 kV power interconnection initiative, Namo Tai Village Primary School covers an area of 296.64 square meters. The campus features new classrooms, multipurpose buildings, multifunctional rooms, a kitchen, restrooms, and other essential facilities.
With its doors now open, the school is expected to significantly enhance access to quality basic education in Namor Tai Village and surrounding communities, nurturing young minds and laying a strong foundation for future generations.
