New geothermal power to generate more than US$600 million a year for Laos

KPL (KPL) The Lao Development and Investment Co., Ltd. (LDIC), the Canadian GEIOS Company and the Wealth Power Group of Vietnam (WPC) have recently signed a joint venture agreement in Vietnam on a geothermal energy development project in the Lao PDR.
  • New geothermal power to generate more than US$600 million a year for Laos
  • (KPL) The Lao Development and Investment Co., Ltd. (LDIC), the Canadian GEIOS Company and the Wealth Power Group of Vietnam (WPC) have recently signed a joint venture agreement in Vietnam on a geothermal energy development project in the Lao PDR.
  • The project aims to supply 5,000 MW of electricity to Vietnam.
  •              Upon completion of the project, the Lao government will receive an annual dividend of at least US$ 613 million, from the sale of renewable energy.
  • The project is also expected to promote employment and poverty reduction in the Lao PDR.

      The Xeuchin Wind Power Projects 1 and 2 in Bolikhamxay Province, are rapidly approaching completion, with over 80% of construction already finished. The projects are on schedule to begin generating electricity by the end of 2025. According to Project Director Mr. Ruang Jungang, both Phase 1 (250 megawatts) and Phase 2 (350 megawatts) are set to commence commercial operations by the end of this year. The electricity generated will be exported to Vietnam under a cross-border energy cooperation agreement.
