11th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party opens

KPL (KPL) The 11th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party was opened at the National Convention Centre, Vientiane this morning by Party Secretary General and State President Bounnhang Vorachit and in the presence of over 700 delegates representing Party organizations from across the country.

(KPL) The 11th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party was opened at the National Convention Centre, Vientiane this morning by Party Secretary General and State President Bounnhang Vorachit and in the presence of over 700 delegates representing Party organizations from across the country.

Almost 150 government organizations, private sector and ethnic minorities were also represented at the meeting. 

Scheduled for Jan 13-15, the meeting allows the participants to evaluate a draft political report and a draft report on the implementation of the 9th socio-economic development plan over the past five years. 

The participants will also be briefed about the revision of the statute of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party’s 11th legislature before casting their votes to adopt the new statute.

The congress will also allow the participants to review the leadership of the 10th Party Central Committee over the past five years and elect the 11th legislature.

In his opening remarks, Secretary General Bounnhang Vorachit said that amid increasingly changing, complicated and unpredictable situation in the world and region and the severe outbreak of Covid-19 which pose opportunities and challenges, the national development has recorded constant growth with major achievements recorded in various areas ensuring political stability, social security and order.

He noted that national independence, sovereignty and revolutionary achievements have been firmly protected despite of financial and monetary constraints, debts and impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic; the country could prevent severe economic and socio turmoil; the livelihoods of people of all ethnic groups have been improved; and poverty reduction has progressed as planned.

“National defense and public security have been strengthened noticeably, armed forces have been equipped with strong political ideology and modern regime; government organizations have been strengthened according to the rule of law trend; the Lao Front for National Development and mass organizations have actively implemented their duties,” said the Secretary General. 

Comrade Bounnhang also highlighted the stronger cooperation with neigbouring countries and international community and the rising role and reputation of the Party and government of the Lao PDR at regional and international arenas.

“At this meeting, we will review together the implementation of the resolution of the 10th National Party Congress and generally evaluate the creating of foundations for marching toward socialism over the past years; learn useful lessons and make agreement on directions, policy and guidance on the national socio-economic development plan for years to come to ensure the continued nurturing of people’ democratic regime and creating of foundations for marching toward socialism,” said the Secretary General.
