Laos Records Over 28,300 Dengue Cases

KPL (KPL) The number of dengue cases in Laos has surged to 28,371 with 60 deaths reported since the beginning of 2019, the Ministry of Health has reported.

(KPL) The number of dengue cases in Laos has surged to 28,371 with 60 deaths reported since the beginning of 2019, the Ministry of Health has reported.

As for infection, the number is five times higher than that reported in the same period last year where over 4,600 people were infected and 14 died of the disease.  

Dengue death toll in Savannakhet remains higher than those reported in other provinces.

Twenty people have reportedly died of the mosquito-borne disease in the central province as 16 lives have been claimed by dengue in Vientiane Capital, six in Champassak, four each in Saravan, and Khammuan, and three in Borikhamxay.

Over 6,700 infection cases have been reported in Vientiane Capital, over 5,000 in Savannakhet, more than 3,000 in Champassak, and over 3,200 in Saravan. 

Over 6,000 dengue infection cases have been reported in Khammuan, Attapeu, and Borikhamxay.

Vientiane has reported over 1,300 infection cases, Luang Namtha 981, Luang Prabang 671, Xayaboury 621,Sekong 571, Xaysomboun 365, Oudomxay 109, Xieng Khuang 54, Bokeo 10,  Huaphan and Phongsaly 8 each.

The number of dengue infection cases is continuing to rise, according to the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health.

According to the World Health Organisation, dengue is one of the fastest emerging infections and is currently the most rapidly spreading viral disease known. There is also no specific treatment or vaccine available to prevent deaths from the disease.
