KPL Australian Ambassador to Laos Megan Jones paid a farewell call on Mr. Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, President of the Lao Front for National Development (LFND), to express gratitude for his longstanding support of bilateral relations and to discuss shared development priorities.

The meeting provided an opportunity to congratulate the LFND on its 76th anniversary and recognise its role in supporting national unity and community engagement across Laos.
Ambassador Jones acknowledged LFND president's contributions to strengthening ties between the two nations, particularly through closer engagement between Australia and Lao Party institutions. She noted his support for dialogue and exchange, including opportunities for Australian diplomats to engage with senior Party, government, and mass organisation representatives to build mutual understanding.
The two sides reflected on the continued growth of the bilateral relationship, which was elevated to a Comprehensive Partnership in 2024. Both agreed on the importance of people-to-people links for strengthening cross-cultural connections.
Discussions also focused on the implementation of the National Agenda, specifically how development opportunities can better reach ethnic, rural, and vulnerable communities.

The ambassador acknowledged the LFND's work in ethnic and religious affairs and its empowerment of local communities.
Mr. Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune emphasised the importance of empowering ethnic groups to advance the social, cultural, and economic development of Laos.
Jones reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to supporting the long-term development of Laos through education, human resource development, economic reform, and community wellbeing. She highlighted ongoing support for health, scholarships, leadership development, English-language training, and professional capacity building as investments in the next generation of Lao leaders.
The ambassador welcomed the strong cooperation between Australian and Lao institutions, citing the Laos-Australia Friendship Association and ongoing policy dialogues.
As her posting concludes, Jones expressed confidence that the partnership will continue to deepen under her successor. Kikeo welcomed continued close cooperation with the incoming Australian ambassador.
