(KPL) A training workshop on election campaigning guidelines for candidates of the 10th National Assembly (NA) representing Constituency 1 (Vientiane Capital) and the 5th Vientiane People’s Council (VC) was held on February 4, 2026, in Vientiane.

The workshop was chaired by Chaleun Yiapaoher, Vice President of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Member of the National Election Committee, and Deputy Head of the Sub-committee for Campaigning and Public Mobilisation. Participants included candidates for the National Assembly and the Vientiane People’s Council, as well as relevant officials.

Speaking at the event, Chaleun Yiapaoher said the workshop aimed to enhance candidates’ understanding of election campaigning and voter education, while promoting patriotism and the exercise of democratic rights among Party members, civil servants, armed forces personnel, students, entrepreneurs and people of all ethnic groups. He stressed the importance of encouraging voters to actively and voluntarily exercise their right to vote in strict accordance with the law and election regulations.

During the session, participants were briefed on key legal and operational issues related to the electoral process, including provisions of the Law on the National Assembly and Provincial People’s Councils, as well as the roles, rights and duties of the National Assembly and Provincial or City People’s Councils.

The workshop also covered guidelines on the official campaign period, procedures for meeting constituents, the importance of gender representation and the role of women in the National Assembly, and practical considerations and responsibilities for candidates both during the campaign and in the performance of their future duties as elected representatives.

According to the meeting, there are 25 candidates contesting seats in the 10th National Assembly for Constituency 1 in Vientiane Capital. For the 5th Vientiane People’s Council, there are seven candidates in each of the capital’s nine districts.
