Authorities in Luang Prabang Province have destroyed more than 35,900 methamphetamine tablets and other illegal narcotics to mark the 24th anniversary of the National Day Against Drugs, which is observed annually on 12 October. The destruction ceremony took place on 6 November 2025 at the provincial indoor stadium in Nasangveuy village, Luang Prabang City.

(KPL) Authorities in Luang Prabang Province have destroyed more than 35,900 methamphetamine tablets and other illegal narcotics to mark the 24th anniversary of the National Day Against Drugs, which is observed annually on 12 October. The destruction ceremony took place on 6 November 2025 at the provincial indoor stadium in Nasangveuy village, Luang Prabang City.
The event was attended by Mr Bounleuam Manivong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, together with the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China to Northern Laos, as well as provincial officials, security personnel, local residents, and students.
Delivering a report on the implementation of the National Agenda on Drug Control, Colonel Khamphao Detbandit, Deputy Head of the Provincial Public Security Command, said that Luang Prabang authorities had handled 173 drug-related cases over the past year. A total of 240 suspects were arrested, including 22 women. Among the cases, seven involved foreign nationals, with eight suspects in total, one of whom was female.
During the operations, authorities seized significant quantities of illegal drugs and related equipment. Confiscated substances included 1,515,014 methamphetamine tablets (equivalent to 151.5 grams of pure substance), 24.9 grams of heroin, 11.6 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice), 21.3 grams of opium, 217.7 grams of tablets resembling ice, 11.6 grams of ketamine, and 1.1 grams of collagen. Officials also confiscated one methamphetamine pressing machine, 14 WY pill molds, one grinding machine, and 26 drug symbol stamps.
Other seized items included 10 cars, 49 motorcycles, 201 mobile phones, one AK rifle, two pistols, two sports rifles, one hunting rifle, and three modified firearms.
At the end of the ceremony, participants witnessed the destruction of drugs that had been cleared by the court for final disposal. The substances destroyed comprised 35,904 methamphetamine tablets, 25.9 grams of heroin, and 7.1 grams of opium.
The event underscored Luang Prabang Province’s commitment to implementing the government’s National Agenda on Drug Control and Prevention. It also reaffirmed the authorities’ determination to combat drug trafficking and abuse through strengthened law enforcement and public awareness efforts.
