KPL Two Lao students, Mr. Palinya Saengdara and Ms. Manivong Kounlasy have brought pride to the nation by winning First Place at the ASEAN Regional Level of the AI–Data Science Explorers Competition, organized by the ASEAN Foundation in Malaysia on October 28, 2025.

This achievement marks a historic milestone for Laos, as it is the first time Lao students have secured the championship in this prestigious regional competition. In previous years, Lao teams participated regularly but had yet to reach the top ranks.

The duo earned the award through their innovative project, the “Data Minions Platform,” which harnesses artificial intelligence and data science to address real-world issues. Their work stood out among entries from 10 ASEAN member countries, reflecting both technical excellence and creative problem-solving.

Both students received scholarships from the Government of Singapore in 2017 to pursue their high school and university education there. Now in their final year at a Singaporean university, Mr. Palinya and Ms. Manivong represented Laos with outstanding determination and talent.

Their victory not only showcases the capabilities of Lao youth in technology and innovation but also serves as an inspiration for young people across the country to pursue excellence in science, technology, and data-driven research.

This remarkable success underscores Laos’ growing participation in regional academic and technological initiatives, while strengthening the nation’s presence in the rapidly evolving fields of artificial intelligence and data science.
