6th Meeting of ASEAN-Russia Think Tanks Network Held in Vientiane

KPL The 6th Meeting of the Network of ASEAN-Russia Think Tanks (NARTT) was held in Vientiane from October 7–8, 2025, under the theme “ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Peace and Development.”

(KPL)  The 6th Meeting of the Network of ASEAN-Russia Think Tanks (NARTT) was held in Vientiane from October 7–8, 2025, under the theme “ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Peace and Development.”

The meeting was co-hosted by the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) of the Lao PDR, in its capacity as NARTT Coordinator, and MGIMO University of Russia.

The opening ceremony was graced by Mr. Maithong Thammavongsa, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and attended by IFA committee members, department heads, researchers, and experts from NARTT member countries.

Discussions focused on challenges, lessons learned, and the direction of ASEAN-Russia cooperation projects in the Political-Security, Economic, and Socio-Cultural sectors.

Political-Security: Participants emphasized intensifying political dialogue between ASEAN and Russia in accordance with the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Blueprint 2025, to foster peace and regional stability.

Economic: The meeting explored cooperation in the digital economy and ICT development, with a focus on strengthening digital infrastructure in line with the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025. Delegates also exchanged views on energy cooperation, particularly the transition to sustainable and renewable energy sources.

Socio-Cultural: Participants shared experiences and lessons to promote connectivity within the framework of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Blueprint 2025.

The meeting’s chair called upon all NARTT member countries to strengthen collaboration and coordination in generating ideas to enhance partnership and find solutions to emerging challenges. He also commended the Network’s contributions in formulating policy recommendations for ASEAN and Russian governments to promote closer and more productive cooperation.

In closing, Ms. Vithanya Sayavong, Head of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and meeting facilitator, expressed her gratitude to NARTT member countries for their continued support and commitment during the Lao PDR’s chairmanship. She also encouraged members to maintain their strong cooperation amid the evolving and unpredictable global geopolitical landscape.
