KPL (KPL) The Lao State Fuel Enterprise has officially launched a new oil import route through Nghi Son Port in Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, to supply fuel to the northern provinces of the Lao PDR.

The opening ceremony took place on October 4, 2025, at the Na Thong oil depot in Xamneua District, Houaphanh Province, and was attended by Mr. Khampaeng Xaisompaeng, Governor of Houaphanh Province; Mr. Bounyok Boudsavong, Deputy Director of the Lao State Fuel Enterprise; along with representatives from relevant departments, offices, and the Provincial Fuel Business Management Committee.

Under this operation, the Lao State Fuel Enterprise imported Euro 5 standard gasoline amounting to over 2,600 tons, or approximately 3.2 million liters. The fuel was shipped by cargo vessel to Nghi Son Port and temporarily stored at the Anfard oil depot in Thanh Hoa Province before being transported into Laos.

Fuel transportation from the temporary depot is divided into two routes: one through Nam Khan International Border Crossing in Xieng Khouang Province, and the other through Nam Xoi International Border Crossing in Houaphanh Province, where it is permanently stored at the Na Thong village oil depot in Xamneua District.

The establishment of this new import route aims to support economic growth, meet the increasing energy demand of the industrial and infrastructure sectors, and enhance energy security for the northern region. It also provides greater flexibility and reliability in the supply of high-quality fuel to meet public and business needs.

In addition, the project reflects the continued strengthening of cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, particularly between Houaphanh Province and Thanh Hoa Province, contributing to closer economic and social ties between the two neighboring regions.

According to officials, the Lao State Fuel Enterprise has worked closely with relevant provincial sectors to conduct research and ensure the efficiency, safety, and quality of the imported fuel. The successful launch of this route marks an important step in advancing national energy security and further solidifying the friendship and cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
