A religious ceremony to officially relocate and enshrine the statue of King Anouvong at Anouvong Stadium was held at the Ministry of Education and Sports on September 21, 2026.
(KPL) The ceremony was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lavan Vongkhamsan, Head of the Office of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr. Vilavanh Bounsoukthai, Head of the Mass Sports, Physical Education and Arts Department, deputy department heads, officials, representatives of the Lao Front for National Construction and other relevant personnel.
The ceremony featured traditional Buddhist rituals, including paying homage to monks, receiving Buddhist precepts and chanting prayers to mark the relocation and bring auspiciousness to the occasion.
The relocation comes as the renovation and reconstruction of Anouvong Stadium, which began on January 20, 2025 with grant assistance from the Government of Japan, approaches completion.
An official handover ceremony for the renovated stadium is scheduled for November 11, 2026, after which the Lao PDR will continue to manage and administer the facility for the development of sports in the country.
The upgraded stadium has also been designed to accommodate both athletes without disabilities and athletes with disabilities, providing a more inclusive facility for sports activities and competitions in Laos.
