Prime Minister Sonexay Visits Xieng Hon District, Reviews Development and Flood Recovery Efforts

KPL Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone visited Xieng Hon district, Xayabury province on July 30 to inspect development progress, review disaster recovery, and encourage local authorities and residents.

(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone visited Xieng Hon district, Xayabury province on July 30 to inspect development progress, review disaster recovery, and encourage local authorities and residents.

The Prime Minister was received by Mr. Phongsavanh Sitthavong, Governor of Xayabury, and Mr. Seng-a-thit Laobiayatho, Party Secretary and Chief of Xieng Hon District.

During the visit, he inspected the strategic Thong Kap–Huay Tong road, met residents in Thong Kap, a community designated to become a new commune, and heard a six-month development report presented by district officials.

According to the report, Xieng Hon’s economy has grown steadily during the first half of 2025. The district achieved 2,980 million kip in revenue collection (64.93% of the annual plan) and spent 1,354 million kip (47.06%). Priorities included agricultural production, infrastructure development, and food security.

Agricultural Highlights: Lowland rice: Planted on 3,358.20 hectares (100% of target)

Upland rice: Planted on 320 hectares, job’s Tears (Mak Deuy): Cultivated on 600 hectares, cassava: Planted on 1,500 hectares

However, Xieng Hon faced two major floods in July: July 16–17: Torrential rains flooded 30 villages, affecting 1,877 families (9,051 people, including 4,416 women), causing 17.7 billion kip in damages.

July 22–23: A second storm caused further damage, estimated at 4.6 billion kip.

Prime Minister Sonexay praised local efforts in disaster response and economic resilience. He delivered remarks to district leaders and residents and donated household appliances and a desktop computer to support the administrative work of the upcoming Thong Kap commune office.
