(KPL) The Party and Government of the Lao PDR have reaffirmed the vital role of women as an essential driving force in the nation's new era of transformation. Lao women are increasingly seen as courageous, capable, and intelligent contributors to national development, while also preserving the country’s rich culture and traditions.
Mr. Sinnava Souphanouvong, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, spoke to the media on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Lao Women’s Union, underscoring the Party’s long-standing commitment to empowering women.
He recalled the founding of the Lao Women's Union under the leadership of the Lao People's Party, established on March 22, 1955, to lead the historic mission of national liberation. From the beginning, the Party emphasized the mobilization and organization of women to participate alongside men in the revolutionary movement.
"The Party has always recognized women as a key force in the country's progress," Mr. Sinnava said. "Their courage, intelligence, and dedication have played a pivotal role in our national development."
Over the years, the Party-Government has introduced policies and legislation to promote gender equality and advance the status of women. These efforts include legal frameworks to protect women’s rights and encourage their full participation in all areas of society.
Women are now increasingly represented at various levels of leadership. They serve as vice presidents, ministers, governors, military officers, diplomats, and administrators, contributing significantly to socio-economic development. In their professional roles, Lao women are recognized for their diligence, decisiveness, and unwavering commitment—qualities that place them on equal footing with men.
Beyond leadership, Lao women continue to play a central role in preserving national culture and traditions, reinforcing their multifaceted contributions to society.
As Laos enters a new chapter of transformation, the Party and Government emphasize the importance of women's continued development, urging them to strengthen their capabilities and actively participate in shaping the nation’s future.
