Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism Commemorates 70th Anniversary of Lao Women’s Union

KPL On July 17, The Women's Union of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism held a ceremony at the National Cultural Hall to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Lao Women’s Union (July 20, 1955 – July 20, 2025). The event also marked the Ministry’s Women’s Union being officially recognized as a “Three Goodies of Lao Women” organization.

(KPL) On July 17, The Women's Union of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism held a ceremony at the National Cultural Hall to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Lao Women’s Union (July 20, 1955 – July 20, 2025). The event also marked the Ministry’s Women’s Union being officially recognized as a “Three Goodies of Lao Women” organization.

The ceremony was attended by Ms. Aly Vongnorbountham, President of the Lao Women’s Union, who delivered a keynote address. Also present were Deputy Ministers Mr. Vansy Kuamua and Ms. Dalany Thammavongsa, Ms. Champhone Vongsa, President of the Ministry’s Women’s Union, as well as delegates and women representatives from across the ministry.

In her speech, Ms. Aly Vongnorbountham reflected on the history, legacy, and achievements of the Lao Women’s Union—particularly the vital role of Lao women during the national liberation struggle (1958–1975) and their continued contributions to nation-building and cultural preservation.

She highlighted the Union’s accomplishments in: Organizational strengthening and personnel development, protection of women's and children's rights, vocational training and skill-building, public outreach and international cooperation.

Ms. Aly emphasized the Union’s ongoing mission to unite and empower Lao women of all ethnic groups to actively participate in the Party’s strategic goals: safeguarding peace and promoting national development. She urged women to deepen their knowledge of Party policies and state laws, develop themselves morally and intellectually, and adapt to changing times while upholding traditional Lao values.

 "Lao women must support one another, be courageous in thought and expression, and call on men in all sectors to support women’s advancement," Ms. Aly stated.

She praised the cultural identity of Lao women, describing their qualities of honesty, gentleness, patience, selflessness, and diligence as vital to building strong families and harmonious communities.

The event also featured an exhibition of Lao women’s handicrafts and agricultural products, showcasing their innovation, economic contribution, and role in national development.
