Lao and Myanmar Leaders Exchange Messages Marking 70 Years of Diplomatic Ties

KPL On July 12, 2025, senior leaders of the Lao PDR and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar exchanged congratulatory messages to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (12 July 1955 – 12 July 2025).

(KPL) On July 12, 2025, senior leaders of the Lao PDR and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar exchanged congratulatory messages to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (12 July 1955 – 12 July 2025).

From the Lao side, messages were exchanged by President Thongloun Sisoulith, Vice President Pany Yathortou, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane. From Myanmar, messages came from Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Vice Chairman Senior General Soe Win, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister U Than Swe.

The Lao leaders expressed satisfaction with the longstanding, neighborly relations and growing cooperation between the two nations over the past seven decades. They affirmed their commitment to further strengthening friendship, trust, and collaboration for the benefit of both peoples, as well as for regional and global peace, stability, and development.

Myanmar’s leaders echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence that under warm bilateral ties, cooperation in areas such as tourism and cultural exchange will continue to grow. They also emphasized joint efforts within ASEAN and the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation framework.

Myanmar’s leadership extended heartfelt thanks to the Lao government and people for their humanitarian aid and rescue support following a recent severe earthquake, and for Laos’ ongoing support within the ASEAN framework.
