(KPL)  The French Embassy in Laos hosted the third edition of France Alumni Day on May 22, bringing together Laotian graduates of French higher education institutions in a celebration of academic achievement and international collaboration.

Held under the global theme “Talents to Change the World,” the event gathered around 100 Lao alumni, along with representatives from academic, diplomatic, institutional, and business sectors.

In his remarks, the Chargé d'Affaires underscored that student mobility remains a long-term priority for the French Embassy, which allocates more than 400,000 euros annually to support French-language education in Laos and higher education opportunities in France. He acknowledged the valuable support of international partners including the European Union (through the Erasmus+ program), the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, and the International Organisation of La Francophonie.

“Alumni are ambassadors of French academic excellence,” he said, “and continue to benefit from the global reputation of the 'France brand' throughout their careers, opening doors to diverse and enriching professional opportunities.”

A highlight of the event was a presentation by Dr. Thatsana Phenglawong, winner of the 2024 "Idea Box" competition, who showcased his innovative project supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorders—a venture made possible with funding from the French Embassy.

France Alumni Day 2025 also reinforced France’s commitment to supporting dynamic, entrepreneurial Lao youth. The Embassy emphasized the importance of alumni exchanges in expanding professional networks and fostering international cooperation.

The celebration reflects the shared vision of the French and Lao Presidents, as expressed during their October 2024 meeting, to make educational cooperation and academic exchange a cornerstone of sustainable development in both nations.
