(KPL) On May 6–7, Professor Li Zhang, Associate Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University, delivered a lecture on China Development Studies and Media Exchange, emphasizing the media’s critical role in national development and international relations.

Professor Zhang highlighted the growth of China’s media efforts in fostering international relations, as well as the collection and dissemination of information both domestically and globally. The media sector also undertakes content analysis, inviting experts from various countries to participate in constructive dialogues and share their perspectives. Additionally, it conducts interviews with specialists across diverse fields, including university professors and education professionals.

A landmark moment occurred in May 2019, when China Global Television Network (CGTN) anchor Liu Xin debated Fox Business Network’s Trish Regan on the U.S.-China trade war, streamed live worldwide. This event underscored China’s recognition of the importance of articulating its views internationally. CGTN’s news commentary programs further serve as a third-party mediator in China’s media globalization strategy.

According to Professor Zhang, in June 2009, the Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council jointly issued the “Overall Plan for the Construction of International Communication Capacity of Key Media in China (2009–2020).” This initiative aimed to advance media globalization by establishing overseas media branches, expanding foreign-language broadcasting, and increasing English-language publications.
The seminar was part of the 2025 Study Tour and Exchange Program, organized by the China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC). Another session, led by Professor Han Donglin from Renmin University of China, explored the structure of Chinese-style democracy, which is people-centered. This democratic model, rooted in China’s historical and cultural traditions, has been widely embraced and implemented.
