A new roundabout under construction along Route 13 South is expected to become a landmark gateway to Thakhek District, combining modern infrastructure with artistic features that reflect the cultural identity and heritage of Khammouane Province.
Located on the road leading to the 3rd Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge, the project is being built at a cost of 3.8 billion kip with support from Asia-Potash International (Laos) Co., Ltd. Construction is currently 60% complete, with completion expected in April 2027.
Mr Vanxay Phongsavanh, Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission, President of the State Inspection Authority and Head of the Central Anti-Corruption Authority, recently visited the site to inspect construction progress during a working visit to Khammouane Province.
The roundabout’s design sets it apart from conventional traffic intersections, incorporating artistic features inspired by local culture and history. These include images of the khaen, the traditional Lao mouth organ, Mahaxay chariot motifs and sculptures representing the province’s distinctive landscape.
The project aims to create more than a functional traffic junction, turning the site into a new landmark that showcases Khammouane’s cultural identity and provides a distinctive gateway to Thakhek District.
