(KPL/Prensa Latina)  The Community statistics office Eurostat reported today that the European Union (EU) registered a deficit of 5.4 billion euros in its international trade.

This item corresponds to the goods in its relation with the rest of the world during January 2025.

This figure contrasts with the surplus of 6.7 billion euros obtained in January 2024, according to Eurostat.

Exports from the EU-27 to the rest of the world reached 208.7 billion euros in January this year, 4.4% more than in the first month of 2024.

Meanwhile, imports rose 10.9% to 214.1 billion euros.

Eurostat also indicated that in December 2024 the EU achieved a surplus of 15.9 billion euros.

The change from surplus in the last month of last year to deficit at the beginning of 2025 was mainly due to the reduced surplus in machinery and vehicles, which went from 19.1 billion euros to nine billion euros.
