KPL (KPL) Between January and November 2024, Vientiane Capital recorded a staggering 994 road accidents, underscoring a pressing public safety issue. According to the Traffic Police Department, the accidents involved 1,994 vehicles, resulting in extensive damage and significant human casualties.

Of the vehicles involved, 592 sustained minor damage, 1,386 were moderately damaged, and 16 were rendered completely unusable. Human tolls were equally alarming, with 1,120 individuals injured—326 suffering minor injuries, 544 moderate injuries, and 250 severe injuries. Tragically, 113 lives were lost in these incidents.

Colonel Phat Sangphommavong, Head of the Investigation Division for Traffic Accidents in Vientiane, shared details of 10 major cases that epitomize the scale of devastation. He emphasized the severe human and material costs resulting from road accidents throughout the year, calling for greater awareness and preventative measures.

The report highlights an urgent need for improved road safety initiatives and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations in the capital.
