(KPL) On November 4, 2024, in Vientiane, Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Party Secretary General and State President warmly welcomed Esteban Lazo Hernández, Politburo Member and President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, who is in Vientiane for official visit to the Lao PDR from November 3-6, 2024.

President Thongloun expressed a heartfelt welcome and high appreciation for Lazo Hernández and his delegation's visit, which also commemorated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Laos and Cuba.

This marks Mr. Lazo Hernández’s first official visit to Laos in his capacity as President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba.

President Thongloun noted that Lazo Hernández’s Laos visit coincides with Laos’ recent successful hosting of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly General Assembly in late October, further strengthening the enduring friendship, cooperation, and socialist solidarity between the two Parties, states, and peoples of Laos and Cuba, especially between the National Assemblies of both nations.

On this occasion, Mr. Lazo Hernández expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the warm reception and briefed the host on the outcomes of his meeting with senior officials of the National Assembly of Laos. During the meeting, both sides reviewed the status of their bilateral relations and cooperation across various areas, while also discussing directions for future collaboration within bilateral and multilateral frameworks. Additionally, they exchanged views on regional and international issues of shared interest.

In the heart of Southeast Asia, the Lao PDR and Cambodia stand united in efforts to end the HIV epidemic. While significant progress has been made, there is still much to do. UNAIDS data shows that ending AIDS as a public health threat is achievable by 2030, but only if countries, communities and partners close the gaps holding back progress. The bottom line is we can only end AIDS as a public health threat by overcoming it everywhere, for everyone.
