(KPL) The Prime Ministers of Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam met in Vientiane on October 9, 2024, on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings taking place from October 8-11.

Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone hosted an informal breakfast meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The meeting underscored the close cooperation among the three countries.

Prime Minister Sonexay expressed his appreciation for the participation of his counterparts in the ASEAN Summits, hosted by the Lao PDR, and acknowledged their support for Laos' 2024 ASEAN Chairmanship.

The Vietnamese and Cambodian Prime Ministers congratulated Laos on its leadership in ASEAN and reaffirmed their commitment to providing continued support for the country’s ASEAN chairmanship responsibilities.

During the meeting, the three leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, including politics, national defense, and security. They emphasized the need to create a favorable environment for development, focusing on economic integration, transportation, and energy cooperation.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was an agreement to accelerate the construction of roads connecting provinces along the shared borders of the three countries. This initiative aims to enhance transport, trade, economic cooperation, investment, and tourism within the region.

The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting each other in regional and international cooperation frameworks, such as ASEAN, the United Nations, the Mekong River Commission (MRC), and the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), among others.
