Hongsa thermal power plant expected to generate next year

KPL (KPL) Hongsa Lignite Thermal Electricity Plant, a mine-mouth power plant, is expected to generate electricity in June 2015. The first generator of the plant is expected to generate electricity in June 2015, with the second one doing in November 2015 and third one in March 2016, according to Senior Officer-Community Relations, Mr. Khomphet Keophila.

(KPL) Hongsa Lignite Thermal Electricity Plant, a mine-mouth power plant, is expected to generate electricity in June 2015.

The first generator of the plant is expected to generate electricity in June 2015, with the second one doing in November 2015 and third one in March 2016, according to Senior Officer-Community Relations, Mr. Khomphet Keophila.

This is the first lignite thermal power plant in Laos and being built at a cost of almost US$4 billion, a joint venture between Banpu Power Limited (40%), Ratchabury Electricity Generating Holding Public Company Limited (40%) and Lao Holding State Enterprise (20%).

       The plant has an installed generation capacity of 1,878 MW or 12,582GWh/year with 100 MW to be sold to the state-owned Electricite du Laos and 1473 MW to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and the rest will be used in Hongsa district, Xayaboury province.

The construction of the project has been completed by 93.6% since its inauguration in November 2011.

       The Lao government has granted 25 years of concession to the Hongsa Power for electricity generation from 2016 to 2041.
