(KPL/Prensa Latina) Spain and China are preparing to produce 150 thousand vehicles, mainly electric, after an agreement signed today in Barcelona by Chery and Ebro-Ev Motors.

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, highlighted the agreement between the Spanish consortium Ebro-EV Motors and the Chinese manufacturer Chery Automobile for the production of electric vehicles in the Free Zone of Barcelona.

“This agreement is a symbol of the reindustrialization process that Catalonia and Spain are experiencing, of the capacity of our industry to adapt to global challenges and of Spain as a country to attract foreign investments,” said Pedro Sánchez.

In a joint statement, the two companies announced they plan to create 1,250 jobs and produce 150,000 vehicles at their Barcelona plant. The cars will be assembled at a former Nissan factory that closed in December, 2021.

This joint-venture will hire “about 150 workers in the coming months and will ultimately have 1,250 jobs.”

“United we are unstoppable. We have demonstrated it by working side by side with the City Council of Barcelona, the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Government of Spain; public administrations, the private sector and the representation of workers,” said the head of the Executive.

He took the opportunity to highlight that Spain is the second largest automobile producing country in Europe and the eighth largest exporter worldwide.

“Total and absolute commitment of the Government of Spain with Barcelona and with Catalonia as a hub reference industry; in all areas, but especially in the automotive sector,” he said.
