Deputy PM attends 24th EU-Asean Ministerial Meeting

KPL (KPL) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith led his delegation attending the 24th EU-Asean Ministerial Meeting which took place in Brussels last Friday.


(KPL) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith led his delegation attending the 24th EU-Asean Ministerial Meeting which took place in Brussels last Friday.

The meeting was co-chaired by EU High Representative Josep Borrell and the Philippines’ Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo.

The meeting Asean and EU foreign ministers highly valued the fruitful relations and cooperation between the two regions over the past 47 years.

The ministers also reviewed the implementation of the cooperation projects under the action plan to implement the ASEAN-EU strategic partnership (2022-2027) which they have been successful in many aspects covering all three pillars of the ASEAN community, especially cooperation in health, people-to-people exchanges between the two regions, air transportation, trade, investment, supply chain, coping with natural disasters, counter-terrorism, education and human resource development.

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers expressed their appreciation for the EU's contribution to the process of building the ASEAN Community, as well as ASEAN integration and connectivity, and the EU's commitment to continue supporting sustainable integration and connectivity through the Global Gateway strategy and the EU's Team Europe initiative.

Mr Saleumxay also participated in the third EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum and delivered remarks as Asean’s Chair.
