(KPL) In 2024, Lao PDR will open the year of Lao tourism and  expected welcome more than 2.7 million tourists visit Laos.

Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Ounthuang Khaophan told on August 21.

The Lao Tourism Year 2024, which includes 14 national activities and 60 local activities will attract tourists to visit Laos through the Laos-China Railway.

Mr Ounthoung said that the Lao government has taken tourism as an important priority in socio-economic development to stimulate its economy after the Covid-19. So the government has adopted it as the year of tourism in Laos.

The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has coordinated with all central and local parties to organize various activities in 2024 which will be divided into  two levels: national and local levela. The national level, there are  14 events such as Vat Phou Champasak Festival, Elephant Festival, Sikhottabong Festival, That Luang Festival, Lao New Year Festival and other activities.

Mr Ounthoung also said the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has also improved tourist attractions and created new tourist attractions with the participation of people such as Khon-Dondet village in Champasak province, Vang Vieng district, Keoudom district in Vientiane province, which have been improved 80% of the plan. All sites expected to welcome tourists the coming year.
