(KPL) The Simuong Group Co Ltd has invested more than 2.7 billion kip (almost US$330,000) in the Nam Houng I Hydropower construction project, which is about 15 km southeast of the Xayaboury urban province.
The decision for the construction was made after completing an environmental impact and economic assessment study that has been ongoing since 2010.
The construction is designed to have a basin of 2,915 square kilometers and a reservoir with capacity stockpile of 1.52 square kilometers of water. The dam will have a capacity generation of 15 megawatts.

The decision for the construction was made after completing an environmentalimpact and economic assessment study that has been ongoing since 2010.
The construction is designed to have a basin of 2,915 square kilometers and a reservoir with capacity stockpile of 1.52 square kilometers of water. The dam will have a capacity generation of 15 megawatts.
The construction of the Nam Houng I Hydropower project is expected to be completed over the next two years and is expected to make a profit about US$3.55 million per year and also contribute to socio-economic development in the country.
Last Saturday, the Xayaboury Planning and Investment Department signed an agreement for management of the Nam Houng I Hydropower project with the Simuong Group.
The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad, the Governor of Xayaboury Province Phongsavath Sitthavong, the Minister of Energy and Mines Khammany Inthilath, the Vice Governor of the Bank of Laos Sonexay Sitphaxay, the President of the Simuong Group Ekaphanh Phapithack, and relevant officials.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Nam Houng I Hydropower project was held last Sunday.
