Xieng Khuang records 9% economic growth every year

KPL Xieng Khuang has been recording constant annual economic growth of 9% over the past five years. The province plans to increase its annual gross domestic product (GDP) to more than 2 trillion kip (almost US$250 million) and a per capita income to US$1,328 this year. Over the last five years, annual rice production in the province stood at 98,000 tonnes, amounting to 410 kilos per person per year. The number of model economic families is increasing with each of them recording at least 150 million kip of annual income,” Governor of Xieng Khuang Somkot Mangnomek told a meeting held in the province early this month.

Mr Somkot attributed the significant economic growth in the province to the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee.

The provincial governor said that 98% of villages in the province are now accessible by roads and 85 percent of villages have access to electricity.

Xieng Khuang has reported a reduction in the number of poor families from 10.73% in 2010 to 2.22% this year. The ratio of girls to boys enrolled at all levels of education stood at 0.93.
