(KPL) Lao athletes have backed home from the 17th Asian Games 2014 with new historical record winning more medals than other previous Asian Games events.
This was unprecedented event that Lao athletes have shown better than has ever been in the Asian Games winning three medals.
Head of Lao athlete delegation, Mr Sengphone Phonamath told local media on the arrival day Laos on Sunday that we are very proud that Lao athletes have won a silver medal and two bronze medals from Incheon Games, the Republic of Korea.
A silver medal has won by Sepaktakaw’s couple female team and other two bronze medals by Wushu and Karate-do.
President of Lao Sepaktakaw Federation, Mr Somphet Maopaseuth said at the welcoming ceremony for Lao Sepaktakaw athletes on Saturday that the silver medal is a historical medal of the Lao Sepaktakaw Federation because the federation has never gotten any medal from the Asian Games.
It was also a history event that Sepaktakaw athlete is the first rank of the Lao athlete delegation for the Asian Games.
Mr Somphet pointed out that Laos won a bronze medal in 1990, again in 1998, two more bronze medals in 2002, a silver medal in 2006 and two bronze medals in 2010. Laos ranks 33rd out of 45 countries in Asia the 17th Asian Games schedule, while the previous games Laos ranked 34th.
"We are very proud the Sepaktakaw athletes won the silver medal from the Asian Games which will be an important encouragement for athletes next games,"said Mr Somphet.
Before the games, our objective is to harvest experiences with hopelessness of any medal during the competition but our athletes did well beyond the target set, he added.
Head of Lao Sepaktakaw athlete delegation, Mr Sengthong Vangkeomany said that our athletes had only a few weeks to practice before attending the competition but they can do the best during competition.
Laos sent 102 athletes to win the medals from the 17th Asian Games in 17 categories.
