Road Near Xay Railway Station to Close for 75 Days

21/10/2026 11:08
KPL A road section between Ban Thin and Ban Na Lae in Xay District, Oudomxay Province, will be temporarily closed for 75 days to allow improvements to a railway tunnel near Xay Railway Station, authorities have announced.

The closure is part of the Laos-China Railway Transport Strengthening Project. The plan followed a joint site inspection on October 20, 2026, led by Anousone Kittivong, Deputy Director of the Oudomxay Department of Public Works and Transport. Provincial and district officials and representatives of China Railway Construction Project No. 15 Limited also participated.
During the closure, motorists will be redirected along a designated detour in the Xay Railway Station area. Before the closure begins, project authorities will install traffic signs and safety equipment, assign personnel to direct vehicles and improve rough sections of the alternative route. Warning lights will also be installed, and water will be sprayed to reduce dust.
The project will reinforce the railway tunnel with concrete and construct a drainage system to prevent waterlogging and improve road conditions throughout the year.
The closure will take effect once preparations and safety inspections have been completed, in accordance with the project schedule.
Motorists are advised to follow traffic signs, comply with instructions from local authorities and use the designated detour throughout the construction period.
