KPL Attapeu Province has called on the government to accelerate key road projects and increase investment in tourism infrastructure to strengthen connectivity, trade and economic growth in the southern province.

(KPL) Mr Bountheung Douangsavanh, Provincial Party Secretary and Chairman of the Attapeu Provincial People's Council, made the call while speaking at the second ordinary session of the 10th National Assembly on October 6, 2026.

He highlighted the need to upgrade major roads linking Attapeu with neighbouring provinces and international border crossings, particularly Routes 18A, 18B and 18D.

Route 18D, which stretches about 112 km from Attapeu to the Phou Heua border crossing with Vietnam, is a key trade and transport route but has deteriorated due to heavy daily truck traffic. Mr Bountheung said negotiations on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) arrangement and financing are underway to facilitate its rehabilitation.

He also called for improvements to Route 18A, which links Attapeu with Route 13 and provides a connection towards Thailand.

The provincial leader said upgrading the three routes would strengthen Attapeu's role as a regional transport and trade hub linking Laos with Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

In tourism, Mr Bountheung urged the government to allocate funding to improve access and facilities at major natural attractions, including Nong Fa Lake, Tad Hua Khon, Tad Safpha and Tat Tha Phap.

He said developing these sites into well-managed tourism products could attract more domestic and international visitors and create additional opportunities for local communities.

The province plans to mobilize local revenue, State budget support and private-sector investment to accelerate infrastructure and tourism projects and promote sustainable economic development.
