KPL A seminar held ahead of the First National Media Conference called for stronger Party leadership and higher professional ethics to guide the future development of Laos' media sector in the digital era.

The seminar, held under the theme "Strengthening Party Leadership and Developing Media Toward a Strong Transition to a New Quality," featured a keynote address by Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, Politburo member and President of the Lao Front for National Development. The event was attended by Khamphan Pheuyavong, Head of the Commission for Information and Education of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, senior Party officials and media representatives.
Kikeo said the Party has consistently regarded media as a strategic instrument for promoting Party policies, educating the public and supporting national development. He described the media as an essential bridge between the Party, the State and the people, communicating official policies while reflecting public opinions and concerns.

He stressed that stronger Party leadership is needed to ensure media organizations continue to provide accurate, timely and responsible reporting while adapting to technological change. He also called for improvements in media management, personnel development, technical infrastructure and international cooperation.
A major focus of the seminar was media ethics. Kikeo said journalists and media professionals must uphold honesty, accuracy, fairness and professionalism while avoiding misinformation, conflicts of interest and personal gain. He urged media organizations to safeguard national culture, respect individual privacy and serve the interests of society.
He outlined five core ethical principles for Lao media: accuracy and truthfulness, impartiality and fairness, professional independence, social responsibility, and respect for individual rights.
Kikeo also encouraged media personnel to strengthen political commitment, professional integrity, organizational discipline and public service, emphasizing that journalists should serve the people with transparency, humility and a strong sense of responsibility.
The First National Media Conference will be held from July 13-15 in Vientiane.
