The Ministry of Health of Lao PDR, the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and UNICEF have officially held a vaccine handover ceremony at the National Immunisation Programme warehouse in Vientiane.

The co-funded contribution successfully closes a critical financing gap, ensuring that steady supplies of routine vaccines reach children and adolescents throughout the Lao PDR.
The high-profile handover ceremony was attended by Mr Bounkheuth Keopasith, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Mr Thomas Lammar, Chargé d'Affaires of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Representatives from UNICEF, alongside relevant officials from both sides.

Immunisation remains among the highest priorities of public health in the Lao PDR, serving as one of the most effective interventions available to protect the lives of children and adolescents against deadly and debilitating diseases.

Whilst Luxembourg has been a long-standing partner in the Lao PDR’s health sector—consistently supporting maternal and child health, nutrition, and health system strengthening through bilateral and multilateral cooperation—this specific support is exceptional in nature. It represents a highly targeted response aimed at bridging a temporary financing shortfall, thereby preventing any disruption to the country's routine immunisation efforts.
'Vaccination is one of the most effective interventions available to protect the lives of our children', noted officials at the ceremony, emphasising that keeping immunisation robust is vital for the nation's future.
Through this trilateral collaboration, the Ministry of Health, Luxembourg, and UNICEF reinforce their shared commitment to health equity, ensuring that no child in the Lao PDR is left unprotected from preventable diseases.
