(KPL) The China Communications Construction Group (CCCG), in collaboration with the Laos and China Universities as well as Hehai University of China, organized a one-day training program titled “Green Classroom – Mekong-Lancang” at the National University of Laos on May 30, 2025.

The session brought together students from the National University of Laos and the College of Vocational and Technical Skills Development to deepen youth engagement in green energy and sustainable development.

The training underscored the growing educational and technical collaboration between Laos and China, particularly in the fields of green infrastructure and renewable energy. Opening remarks by Lao and Chinese representatives highlighted their shared commitment to knowledge exchange, environmental stewardship, and regional integration through academic partnerships.

Professor Zhou Jianshu from Hehai University’s Faculty of Hydropower Engineering delivered the keynote lecture, offering an in-depth overview of hydropower development and its application. He showcased achievements in China’s green energy portfolio, including large-scale hydropower dams, wind farms, and pumped-storage power stations.

He also presented case studies of major Lao hydropower projects—Nam Lik 1-2, Nam Ngiep 2, and Nam Kong 1—demonstrating how Chinese firms have adapted technologies to local conditions in Laos.

Professor Zhou further discussed the theoretical foundations of renewable energy, highlighting its environmental advantages and the need for location-specific solutions. He emphasized the pivotal role of youth in advancing sustainable energy transitions across the Mekong-Lancang region.

Participants engaged actively through discussions and Q&A sessions, contributing to a lively and collaborative atmosphere. Engineers and experts from both countries shared hands-on experiences in hydropower construction and plant management, offering students valuable insights into project implementation and technical best practices.

The “Green Classroom – Mekong-Lancang” initiative reflects ongoing efforts to foster regional cooperation in sustainable energy, capacity building, and innovation under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework.
