(KPL) Hong Kong, often hailed as “Asia’s World City,” recently hosted a significant international event—the Signing Ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) on May 30. As the future headquarters of IOMed, Hong Kong welcomed delegates with thoughtfully prepared souvenirs and greetings, reinforcing its reputation as a global hub.

The event drew attention from international media, with nine foreign journalists from the China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC) invited to cover the ceremony. Their visit was part of a journalist program featuring tailored briefings and tours, showcasing Hong Kong’s dynamism as one of China’s most developed and modern cities.

Visitors to Hong Kong are immediately struck by its cutting-edge infrastructure, seamlessly connecting roads, bridges, and commercial networks—particularly between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The city’s skyline, adorned with elegant high-rises, luxurious hotels, and state-of-the-art facilities, exemplifies its blend of modernity and efficiency.

Tourists can immerse themselves in Hong Kong’s vibrant culture through experiences like the Old Town Central Walking Tour, where guides unravel the city’s rich history. For breathtaking views, a trip to Victoria Peak—the highest point on Hong Kong Island—offers scenic overlooks alongside world-class dining and shopping. The misty mountain air and panoramic skyline create an unforgettable atmosphere.

At a reception for international reporters, Mr. Huang Jingrui, Counselor to Hong Kong, highlighted the city’s unique position: “Hong Kong is China’s most international city, where East meets West and tradition blends with modernity.”

Under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, Hong Kong has entered a new era of stability, prosperity, and efficient governance, maintaining its status as a global financial, trade, and shipping hub. With strong central government support and collaborative efforts across sectors, Hong Kong’s economy continues to thrive.

GDP growth accelerated to 3.1% year-on-year in Q1 2025, up from 2.5% in Q4 2024.

Tourism rebounds strongly, with 16.07 million visitors in the first four months of 2025—a 10% increase from 2024. Arrivals from key markets like Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia surged by 20-30%.

“The world is rediscovering Hong Kong’s unique charm,” noted Mr. Huang. From its economic vitality to its cultural richness, Hong Kong truly lives up to its title: Asia’s World City.
