(KPL)  Senior military leaders from the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam held high-level talks on April 22 to further strengthen bilateral defense cooperation.

The meeting focused on deepening the longstanding “great friendship,” special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, their ruling parties, and their armed forces.

The Lao delegation was led by Saichay Kommasith, Lieutenant General, Deputy Minister of National Defense, and Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army.

The Vietnamese delegation was headed by Nguyen Tan Cuong, Senior General, Deputy Minister of National Defense, and Chief of the General Staff of the People’s Army of Vietnam.

Both sides highly valued the effectiveness of past cooperation between the two militaries.

Key areas of collaboration included regular exchanges of delegations at various levels, coordination in Party and political work, and joint efforts in human resource development, including training and professional capacity building.

The two sides also highlighted continued cooperation in maintaining security along the shared border, aiming to preserve stability and promote it as a border of friendship, peace, and development.

Looking ahead, both parties agreed to further expand cooperation across multiple areas.

They pledged to continue mutual support in training military personnel and technical specialists, while ensuring effective implementation of signed protocols and annual cooperation plans between the two Ministries of National Defense.

Officials said the meeting concluded in a spirit of trust, mutual understanding, and solidarity, contributing to the continued strengthening of bilateral relations between Laos and Vietnam.
