(KPL) Large crowds filled the grounds of the Hor Lak Meuang Festival in Attapeu Province on March 27, as residents and visitors came together to celebrate one of the province’s most important cultural events.
The annual festival, held in honor of the city pillar, marked the first major celebration since the completion of its consecration ceremony last year. Attendees from across the province gathered in a festive atmosphere illuminated by colorful lights and accompanied by music and performances.
People of all ages and ethnic groups joined the celebration, reflecting a strong sense of unity and cultural pride within the community.
The event featured a range of performances from seven artistic troupes representing five districts. Highlights included traditional dances such as “Proud to be Lao,” vocal performances including “Scent of the Champa Flower,” and songs from ethnic minority groups. Modern performances and a large group Lam Vong also drew enthusiastic participation.
Organizers said the performances are aimed at encouraging younger generations to preserve the country’s cultural heritage.
Festival activities are continuing in the coming days, including the Miss Attapeu beauty pageant and traditional Molam Siphandone performances.
A merit-making ceremony is scheduled for March 30, when 30 monks will receive alms as part of a traditional blessing for the city.
Local officials say the festival has drawn strong participation this year, helping boost community spirit while supporting local tourism and economic activity
