Minister Inspects Conditions of National Road No. 9

KPL On March 10, 2026, Mr. Leklay Sivilay, Minister of Public Works and Transport, led a delegation to Savannakhet Province to inspect the current condition of National Road No. 9 and review ongoing infrastructure initiatives. The visit included a meeting with Mr. Bounchom Ubonpaseuth, Governor of Savannakhet Province, to discuss development plans and support for road maintenance projects.

(KPL) On March 10, 2026, Mr. Leklay Sivilay, Minister of Public Works and Transport, led a delegation to Savannakhet Province to inspect the current condition of National Road No. 9 and review ongoing infrastructure initiatives. The visit included a meeting with Mr. Bounchom Ubonpaseuth, Governor of Savannakhet Province, to discuss development plans and support for road maintenance projects.

The minister emphasized the Ministry’s “Strong Transformation” policy, aimed at strengthening economic resilience, converting infrastructure assets into funding for road maintenance, and modernizing checkpoints for improved efficiency and aesthetics.

During the field inspection, the delegation focused on sections of National Road No. 9 from the Dinosaur Roundabout in Kaysone Phomvihane City to the Lao-Vietnam border in Sepon District. Officials reviewed rehabilitation work under the Output and Performance-Based Road Contract (OPBRC) and the Public Road Toll Collection (PRTC) model, noting the use of modern machinery and the construction of toll collection points to ensure sustainable maintenance and safe, year-round traffic flow.

Governor Bounchom Ubonpaseuth expressed support for the initiatives and highlighted the importance of engaging the private sector in infrastructure development to boost both safety and economic growth.
