(KPL) A new parking management system will be introduced in Vientiane following the launch of the city’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, with roadside parking fees set at 80 kip per minute across designated zones.

Mr. Khamphan Vanthana, Head of the Vientiane Sustainable Urban Transport Project (BRT), said in an interview with journalists on November 2, 2025, that strict parking regulations will take effect once the BRT system becomes fully operational.

Under the new policy, parking will be strictly prohibited on both sides of Setthathirath Road, particularly along the section stretching from the Wat Inpeng intersection to the junction near the Hor Kham (Presidential Palace).

Authorities will establish eight designated parking zones across Chanthabuly District and Sisattanak District. These areas will be located in selected alleys and side streets capable of accommodating vehicles.

The standard parking rate will be set at 80 kip per minute for the general public. However, residents living along the main roads who lack private parking spaces may be eligible for a monthly subscription fee.

Officials confirmed that the marking of designated parking service areas has already been completed.

Following consultations between the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Vientiane Capital Administration on March 2, 2026, authorities announced that the BRT project is fully prepared for trial operations along the designated routes.

The BRT service is expected to begin serving passengers on March 10, 2026, with the official handover of the project scheduled shortly thereafter.
