KPL The Lao government has designated road safety as a fundamental national priority, stepping up enforcement, legal reforms and prevention measures to curb rising traffic accidents nationwide.

 

(KPL) The Lao government has designated road safety as a fundamental national priority, stepping up enforcement, legal reforms and prevention measures to curb rising traffic accidents nationwide.

Authorities are implementing a five-pillar strategy covering safety management, infrastructure improvement, vehicle technical standards, driver behavior control and post-crash emergency response.

The National Road Safety Committee is advancing policy coordination, legal updates and capacity development, including revisions to land traffic regulations, driver training standards and enforcement measures.

According to official data, Laos recorded 6,779 traffic accidents in 2025, resulting in 917 deaths, 10,464 injuries and damage to more than 12,000 vehicles. Major causes included drunk driving, speeding, failure to yield and unsafe overtaking.

The government is strengthening cooperation among relevant sectors to enhance prevention, enforcement and public awareness nationwide.
