The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an official notice informing Lao citizens to refrain from submitting visa applications to travel to the United States of America, following the inclusion of the Lao PDR among 75 countries subject to a U.S. visa issuance suspension, effective January 21, 2026.
(KPL) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an official notice informing Lao citizens to refrain from submitting visa applications to travel to the United States of America, following the inclusion of the Lao PDR among 75 countries subject to a U.S. visa issuance suspension, effective January 21, 2026.
According to the announcement, the suspension applies to the issuance of all categories of entry visas to the United States for nationals of the designated countries, including the Lao PDR.
The Ministry warned that visa applications submitted during this period will not be considered, and applicants will forfeit their application fees without receiving a visa. Citizens are therefore advised to avoid applying for U.S. visas until further notice.
Exceptions
The suspension does not apply to the following individuals, who may continue to travel to the United States as usual:
Holders of diplomatic passports
Holders of official passports
Individuals traveling on official diplomatic missions or attending international meetings by official invitation
The Ministry noted that the announcement is based on information released by the U.S. Department of State regarding the implementation of visa suspension measures for certain countries.
