The Lao Wildlife Conservation Center, formerly located in Keun Village, Thoulakhom District, Vientiane Province—previously known as the Keun Village Zoo—has relocated to a newly constructed site and will officially open to the public on 19 January 2026.

The opening marks a long-awaited milestone for wildlife conservation supporters and the general public. From 19 January onward, visitors will be able to enter the center freely for educational visits and learning experiences, with no advance reservation required.

Unlike a traditional zoo, the Lao Wildlife Conservation Center does not keep animals for public display. It operates as a rescue and rehabilitation facility for wildlife rescued from illegal trade. Animals at the center receive professional care, medical treatment, and rehabilitation aimed at preparing them for eventual release back into their natural habitats. All conservation and care activities are guided by a single objective: returning wildlife to the forests where they belong.

Visitors to the center will gain insight into real-world conservation efforts. In addition to observing rescued animals, guests will have the opportunity to learn about proper wildlife care and treatment, understand the specific nutritional needs of different species, explore the environments best suited to various animals, and experience the authentic atmosphere of hands-on wildlife conservation.

The new facility is conveniently located near the Nam Pien Yorla Pa tourist area in Vientiane Capital, making it easily accessible for both local and international visitors. Directions and a location map are available in the comments section of the center’s online platforms.
