(KPL) On the occasion of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, held on January 6, 2026, Mr. Khammon Chanthachit, Vice President of the Central Theoretical Council of the Party, granted an interview to the Lao News Agency highlighting the historic significance of the Congress and its long-term strategic vision.

Mr. Khammon said the 12th Party Congress convened in an atmosphere of high responsibility, unity, and solidarity, marking a major milestone in the country’s political and socio-economic development. He noted that participants expressed deep pride in the achievements of recent years, describing this Congress as more dynamic, focused, and forward-looking than previous sessions.

Introduction of a Historic Political Program

A defining highlight of the 12th Party Congress is the adoption of the Third Political Program, the first comprehensive political program introduced in more than five decades. Unlike previous congresses, which relied primarily on five-year guidelines, the new political program establishes a long-term national roadmap extending to 2045.

The program is structured around 11 major policy orientations, providing a clear and consistent strategic direction to guide national development over the coming decades.

Four Strategic Priorities for the Next Five Years

Mr. Khammon outlined four key focus areas for the upcoming five-year term, covering political, economic, and social development:

Strengthening Party Leadership: Enhancing the role, capacity, and credibility of the Party as the core leader of the political system.

Deepening Comprehensive Reforms: Advancing strong, deep, and wide-ranging reforms to modernize the country.

Promoting Economic Self-Reliance: Building an independent, resilient, and self-sustaining national economy.

Developing Human Resources and Digital Innovation: Investing in human capital, science, technology, and digital transformation to keep pace with rapid global change.

Mobilizing Unity to Implement Congress Resolutions

Mr. Khammon emphasized that the Central Propaganda and Training Board, as the Party’s leading ideological and communication body, has been assigned to disseminate the resolutions of the Congress widely through mass media and public education, ensuring they are fully understood and effectively implemented nationwide.

The Party leadership also issued a call for unity to all citizens, civil servants, and Party members, urging them to work together to overcome current domestic and international challenges.

He cited the Congress’s guiding message: “The more difficult the situation, the more patient we must be; the more complex the challenge, the more composed we must remain; and the tougher the journey, the more wisdom we must apply.”

Through solidarity, discipline, and collective wisdom, he said, the Lao people aim to transform the resolutions of the 12th Party Congress into concrete outcomes, laying a strong foundation for a prosperous and developed nation by 2045.
