(KPL) On December 29, 2025, Minister of Industry and Commerce Mr. Malaithong Kommasith welcomed Mr. Ong Siew Gay, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to the Lao PDR.

During the meeting, the Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and expressed appreciation for the long-standing friendship and close cooperation between Laos and Singapore. He highlighted that bilateral relations are founded on mutual respect, shared interests, strong solidarity, and a common commitment to ASEAN centrality.

The Minister noted that cooperation between the two countries has continued to expand across various sectors, particularly in trade and investment, with Singapore remaining an important economic partner and a major source of capital. He also cited growing collaboration in services, logistics, finance, tourism, infrastructure development, and energy, as well as cooperation in human resource development, education, technical assistance, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Minister wished the Ambassador good health and success in carrying out his diplomatic mission in the Lao PDR.

In response, Ambassador Ong Siew Gay thanked the Minister for the warm welcome and reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations. He pledged to work closely with relevant sectors in both countries to enhance friendship and advance economic cooperation between Laos and Singapore.
