KPL The Embassy of India in Vientiane on Friday celebrated ITEC Day 2025 with a vibrant event highlighting the enduring partnership and shared growth between India and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). The occasion marked the anniversary of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, a flagship initiative of India’s Ministry of External Affairs that has been promoting capacity building and development cooperation since 1964.

The gathering, attended by over 200 guests, included Mr. Rohit Babbar, First Secretary (Com) & Head of Chancery, senior officials from the Lao government, ITEC alumni, members of the Indian diaspora, and friends of India.

Under the ITEC Programme, the Government of India offers a wide range of short-term and long-term training courses in various disciplines for Lao nationals, primarily government officials. To date, over 1,500 Lao officials have benefitted from these programmes, building expertise in key areas of governance and development. For the financial year 2025–26, 22 Lao candidates have been sanctioned so far for ITEC training.

The event featured inspiring testimonials from ITEC alumni, who shared how their experiences in India had enhanced their professional capabilities and strengthened their institutions back home. The celebration also served as a dynamic networking platform, enabling participants from different sectors to exchange ideas and explore future collaborations.

Rooted in the ancient Indian philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—the world is one family—the ITEC Programme embodies India’s inclusive approach to global development. Guided by this ethos, India’s cooperation focuses on partner countries’ priorities, emphasizing a demand-driven, transparent, and mutually respectful model of partnership, as highlighted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Adding a cultural flourish to the evening, the Lao National Theatre presented a captivating traditional dance performance, symbolizing the enduring cultural and people-to-people bonds that enrich the India–Lao relationship.

The celebration reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to capacity building, human resource development, and shared progress—values that continue to drive the success of the ITEC Programme and strengthen the enduring friendship between India and Lao PDR.
