(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone held talks with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who is also First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, in Vientiane on Sep 7 during the Cuban leader’s state visit to Laos on Sep 6–7.
Prime Minister Sonexay extended a warm welcome to the Cuban President, expressing great delight at the opportunity to meet and work together.
He highly valued the visit, noting that it was the Cuban President’s third visit to Laos, and described it as an important milestone in strengthening the traditional friendship, cooperation, and fraternal solidarity between the two Parties, States, and peoples.
The Lao leader commended the outcomes of the talks between the leaders of Laos and Cuba, reaffirming the sincerity and mutual trust that have long defined bilateral relations.
On behalf of the Government of the Lao PDR, he expressed deep gratitude for Cuba’s valuable assistance in various sectors, particularly in education, sports, and public health.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged updates on their socio-economic development and praised the achievements of their respective countries in recent years. They emphasized the strategic nature of the Laos–Cuba relationship, highlighting close Party-to-Party and State-to-State cooperation, mutual understanding, and trust in advancing their shared goal of building socialism.
The leaders also agreed to continue expanding cooperation in existing areas such as education, sports, public health, and agriculture, while exploring new fields of collaboration to bring greater mutual benefits.
President Díaz-Canel expressed appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the Lao Government and encouraged continued close cooperation between the prime ministers of the two countries to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation.
On this occasion, President Díaz-Canel invited Prime Minister Sonexay to pay an official visit to Cuba at a mutually convenient time. The Lao Prime Minister accepted the invitation with pleasure.
